[Over Yonder has now drawn to a conclusion, but this site will remain as an archive of the project and its participants]
Welcome to Over Yonder, the 5th and last East Street Arts Social Club event series during autumn/winter 2010.
Over Yonder explores the historical context of town/region twinning which started just after the second world war (the first recorded modern twinning agreement was between Keighly, West Yorkshire and Poix-du-Nord, France) and witnesses strong links between cities and regions and its people. Through this theme artists and publics engage with the social, historical, cultural and political similarities and differences between us and will push the boundaries of what we mean by twinning.
We are working with key partners Dean Clough Galleries, Halifax The Art House, Wakefield and nti, Leeds delivering an amazing series of artists commissions taking place throughout West Yorkshire from October to December 2010. West Yorkshire towns and cities are linked with their counterparts in the Ruhr Valley in Germany. East Street Arts are delighted, after developing projects with Dortmund for over ten years, to open this up this autumn and involve Huddersfield, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Castrop, Unna, Dusseldorf and others.
We would love to see you at this last Social Club series of events to celebrate and get involved in a rich and varied programme that includes: a social walk, meeting people in Germany through a virtual portal, contributing to an exhibition on a narrow boat and visiting art exhibitions and other interesting venues.
Over Yonder is funded by West Yorkshire Grants and supported by Leeds City Council, Jet 2, Marketing Leeds, Leeds Digital Week, our friends in Dortmund and programme partners.
Our special thanks to Westgate Studios and BEAM in Wakefield for their help and support in developing this project.
